29th Annual Stuff-A-Bus Food Drive Wraps Up with 8.62 Tons of Donations Collected

The 29th Annual Stuff-A-Bus Food Drive to benefit the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service officially wrapped up on Tuesday, November 29.  The campaign began on October 28 and concluded with a press conference at the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service to announce the total weight of the bus filled with the food collected during the campaign.

The total weight of the food collected on the bus during the campaign was 15,060 pounds or 7.53 tons.  In addition, another 2187 pounds/dollars was donated directly to the Peoria Friendship House during the campaign for a total collection of 17,247 pounds or 8.62 tons.

“We are beyond overjoyed to receive the donations from Stuff-A-Bus this year. Each year we are overwhelmed by the generosity and support we receive from the community for this food drive.  These donations are truly a blessing to the families we serve each week through our food pantry,” said Melanie McNiff, President and CEO of Peoria Friendship House.

For the past 29 years, CityLink has hosted the Stuff-A-Bus food drive to help eliminate hunger in Peoria.  With a long partnership with Kroger to collect enough food to stuff a classic CityLink bus, the donations collected during the annual food drive benefit the food pantry at the Peoria Friendship House.  Since January of this year, the Peoria Friendship House food pantry has provided meals weekly to 75-120 families who are dealing with hunger in Peoria.

Other organizations and businesses that volunteered their time and collected food include: The Amalgamated Transit Union Local #416; Caterpillar Supply Division on Old Tractor Road; CityLink’s administrative staff; Cumulus Radio staff and listeners; Farmers Insurance Agent Rich Dorbeck; First Baptist Church of Peoria; Fix My Gadget locations in Peoria and Peoria Heights; Methodist College; Moriah Missionary Baptist Church; MV Transportation; OneFire Media; Peoria Chiefs; Peoria Mustangs; Peoria Police Department Explorers Program; Peoria Riverfront Museum; Peoria Rivermen; Quinn Johnston Henderson Pretorius & Cerulo law office; the City of West Peoria’s administrative staff and residents; and WMBD/WYZZ staff and viewers.

Cumulus Radio, WYZZ Fox 43, WMBD CBS 31, Bounce Central Illinois and CIPROUD.com were media partners in this food drive. The Amalgamated Transit Union #416 was also a participating sponsor.

For 65 years, Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service has made a difference in the Near North side and the East Bluff neighborhoods of Peoria, and beyond.  They have a heritage filled with stories of how they have brought hope into people’s lives.  In recent years, Peoria Friendship House implemented their new A.C.E.S Philosophy (Advocacy, Coaching, Education and Support).
