Sunday Bus Service Has Officially Arrived in Peoria

It was a historic moment on Sunday, June 8, when nine buses left the CityLink Transit Center at the 8:15 am lineup.  For the first time since the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District was established in 1970, buses could be seen on the streets of Peoria on a Sunday.  Service on Sunday is something many CityLink passengers have been looking forward to for a long time.  Some passengers will use the bus on Sunday to get to and from work, while others will use it to go to church, run errands, or visit family and friends.  The number of riders for June 8 was 2,896, which exceeded CityLink...Read more

In the Spotlight: Dump the pump, ride public transit

The following is a Letter to the Editor submitted to the Peoria Journal Star by Anna R. Buehrer, CityLink director of marketing and public relations.  http://www.pjstar.com/article/20140523/OPINION/140529476/-1/News

In a recent “Word on the Street” column regarding the changes to the University and Main intersection, Nick Vlahos wrote, “Public transportation is not abundant here. People still have to drive.” I think a more appropriate...Read more

CityLink Provides Free Rides to Passengers for Jerome Lilly Passenger Appreciation Day

CityLink celebrated its 6th Annual Passenger Appreciation Day in honor of Jerome Lilly on Monday, April 21.  Passengers rode free all day on all fixed routes.  Mr. Lilly, a beloved general manager of CityLink, passed away unexpectedly in 2007.  April 20 is Mr. Lilly’s birthday anniversary, but this year the date fell on a Sunday, prompting Passenger Appreciation Day to be celebrated a day later.  Passengers also received a bookmark to commemorate Mr. Lilly at the Transit Center until the supply ran out.

US Representative Cheri Bustos Tours CityLink Facilities and Holds Roundtable Discussion

During the week of February 17, United States Representative Cheri Bustos traveled all across the 17th Congressional District of Illinois to talk with seniors, veterans, and middle class workers about their economic priorities.  CityLink’s facilities lie within Rep. Bustos’ Congressional District, prompting her visit on Wednesday, February 19.  She engaged employees, management, and GPMTD board members in a roundtable discussion about their concerns and ideas for the future of CityLink.  Rep. Bustos was able to get a clear understanding on the needs of CityLink during the roundtable...Read more

Plan for CityLink Transit Center on the Northside of Peoria

For several months staff at the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District Board of Trustees has been working on plans for a study for the potential development of a Transit Center on Peoria's Northside.  As Peoria has experienced growth in the northern portions of the city, the need to provide an additional facility to help with the time length of bus routes has become more evident.  Since moving out of Northwoods Mall several years ago, CityLink has not had a location aside from the Downtown Transit Center for passengers to transfer between buses.  For example, it takes one hour for a bus on...Read more

What's All the Talk About Service?

During the past few months, CityLink has held several public hearings regarding bus service.  In November two hearings were held in Bartonville regarding the continuation of service to that community.

Presently, bus service to Bartonville is provided five times a day, Monday through Friday, on Route 19, “Bartonville Commuter Express.”  The service was started in December 2008 with funding from a federal Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) grant through the Tri County Planning Commission.  Since the start of the service, and through the end of...Read more

A Season of Thanksgiving Like No Other

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we pause to be especially thankful this year.  Thankful that we have a National Weather Service that provided warnings that saved lives.  Thankful that the loss of life was not greater.  Thankful for communities that pull together in times of loss. Thankful for neighbors who put their own tragedies aside to help neighbors.  Thankful for churches that provided physical and spiritual shelter.

This Thanksgiving we can be most thankful for giving hearts.  The giving of $750,000 during a three-hour telethon.  The giving of walls of bottles of...Read more
