CityLink Director of Marketing Takes Ride on New Hybrid Bus

I had the opportunity to ride one of the new hybrid buses on February 17, 2017. This wasn't my first time riding one of the cool GREEN buses, but it was my first experience riding the bus with other passengers.

The purpose behind my "ride along" was to accomplish two things:

  1. Have the opportunity to ride along on a route with passengers.
  2. Talk to passengers and get their feedback on the new buses.

I made it down to the Transit Center for the 12:15 p.m. lineup and I waited at the bay for the #20 ICC Express bus with the other passengers. Our bus operator was Tony Proctor, who has been working at CityLink for 12 years.

Tony got on the bus and helped a passenger in a wheelchair secure their wheelchair and then the rest of the passengers entered the bus and paid their fare.

The first passenger I spoke to was Shirley from Sunnyland. Shirley shared with me that she is an avid bus rider and hasn't had a car in 3 years. The bus is important to her because she depends on it to get to doctor's appointments. Her thoughts on the new hybrid buses:

  • Thinks it's comfortable
  • Likes the natural sunlight
  • Feels it's more spacious

The next passenger I had the opportunity to speak with goes by the nane TYNIE. She told me she has been riding the bus for almost 18 years. Her thoughts on the new hybrid buses:

  • Enjoys riding in the new buses
  • Likes that they provide a smooth ride
  • Likes that the seats are wider
  • Feels safe when riding in the buses

Next, I spoke with Walter from Peoria. He shared with me that he has been riding the bus since he moved to Peoria 5 years ago, and he was getting off at the Par-A-Dice to get lunch that day. His thoughts on the new hybrid buses:

  • Feels like they are nice, roomy, and wider
  • Likes that they are better for the environment
  • Thinks they provide a quiet, peaceful, and smooth ride

The next passenger I spoke with was Jessica from East Peoria. She is a student at Illinois Central College and her major is Physical Therapy. She has been riding the bus since she started classes at ICC in August 2015. Her thoughts on the new hybrid buses:

  • Likes the bright green colors
  • Like that it's environmentally friendly

The final passenger I spoke with was Eddie from Peoria.  He works at ICC and he has been an avid bus rider since 1998. He also shared with me that he uses the 30-Day Pass. His thoughts on the new hybrid buses:

  • Likes the wider doors
  • Feels like it provides better accessibility for passengers with wheelchairs
  • Thinks it runs smooth

I had intentions of riding through two lineups. Unfortunately, I started not feeling well on the way back to the Transit Center and I wasn't able to ride through the 1:15 p.m. lineup. I was grateful to have the opportunity to ride with some of our passengers and get their feedback on the hybrid buses. Thank you to Tony Proctor for letting me tag along that day!

You will be seeing more GREEN buses on the streets later this year. CityLink plans to receive two more hybrid buses in Summer 2017.
