Illinois Deputy Governor to be Keynote Speaker at Annual Stuff-A-Bus Kick-Off Luncheon

The reality of hunger in Illinois will be the focus of this year’s luncheon to kick off the annual Stuff-A-Bus food drive to benefit the Peoria Friendship House.  Cristal Thomas, deputy governor in the Office of Governor Pat Quinn and co-chair of the Illinois Commission to End Hunger will be the guest speaker at the luncheon.  According to the Commission, 1.8 million Illinoisans do not know when or where their next meal might come from, and close to 745,000 of those are children.

CityLink Honors Peoria’s Selection as All-America City

CityLink unveiled a custom bus wrap to honor Peoria’s selection as an All-America City.  The event was held Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Riverfront Clock Tower in Peoria.  The bus wrap features a panoramic image of downtown Peoria on the driver’s side, and images of Elite Pulses of Hope Drumline on the curbside.  It will remain on the bus for one year.
“This is a great opportunity for CityLink to showcase the pride Peoria has for being named a 2013 All-America City,” said CityLink General Manager Tom Lucek.

No CityLink Bus Service on Labor Day

CityLink will not have bus service on Monday, September 2, 2013, in observance of Labor Day.  The Transit Center and Administrative offices will also be closed that day.  Service resumes as scheduled and the Transit Center and Administrative offices will return to normal operating hours on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Summary of August 2013 GMPTD Board of Trustees Meeting

The August 12, 2013 meeting of the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District Board of Trustees has been moved to Monday, August 19, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
The Board took action to change the date of the meeting at their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, July 8, 2013.

CityLink Park and Ride Season Kick Off

CityLink is gearing up for the official kickoff of its 2013-2014 Park and Ride season with “Close to You – The Music of the Carpenters,” part of the Illinois Central College Guest Artists Series, on Saturday, August 31.  This is the first of many events CityLink will provide Park and Ride service to and from this season.  Other events and venues include the Peoria Symphony, Broadway Series and Bradley basketball games at the Peoria Civic Center.

CityLink Ridership Grows by Almost 1 Million During 5-Year Period

The latest Fiscal Year numbers released by CityLink indicate that ridership for the bus system grew by almost one million trips or a 40% increase over a five-year period.  In June 2008, CityLink’s ridership for the fiscal year was 2,435,031.  By the following year, ridership grew 25% to 3,026,541.  Ridership in Fiscal Year 2010 showed a slight dip, but subsequent years show a steady increase, culminating in 3,408,232 trips by the end of June 2013.

July 4th Service Hours and Park and Ride Information

CityLink will not offer regular bus service on Thursday, July 4, 2013, in honor of the 4th of July holiday. On July 3, the last line-up will depart from the Transit Center at 8:45 p.m., and then all buses will return to the garage after reaching the end of the outbound route. The Transit Center lobby and CityLink Administrative offices will be closed July 4.  Regular service resumes and offices will be open on July 5.
